Hi, I have a question and I hope anyone could answer it:

Why is there a pressing need to use non-conventional sources of energy in India ? Explain any three reasons.

1 Answer

  1. There is an urgent need to use non-conventional sources of energy like solar energy, wind, tide, biomass, and energy from waste material in India because of the following reasons:

    1. The growing consumption of energy has resulted in the country becoming increasingly dependent on fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas.

    2. The ever-increasing prices of oil and gas and their potential shortages have raised uncertainties about the security of energy supply in future, which in turn has serious repercussions on the growth of the national economy.

    3. The increased use of fossil fuels hampers the environment and causes serious environmental problems and degradation.

NOTE – Sources of energy are divided into –

    1. Conventional sources – these include fossil fuels, coal, petroleum etc.

    2. Non – Conventional sources – these include solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy etc. The need to use non – conventional sources is increasing because unlike the conventional sources, they do not require many years for formation under the earth’s crust, therefore are renewable in nature. Also, they are an alternative to the conventional sources which are increasingly being used up.
