Hi, I have a question and I hope anyone could answer it:

If a current I given by IO sin[ωt – (π/2)] flows in an ac circuit across which an ac potential of E = EO sinωt has been applied then the power consumption p in the circuit will be,

(a) P = [{E0I0}/(√2)]

(b) P = √2 E0I0

(c) P = [{E0I0}/(2)]

 (d) P = 0

  1. Correct option is D) P= 0

    I=I0(sinωtπ/2)

    E=E0sinωt

    Here E and I are in out of phase [θ=π/2]
     Power factor cosθ=cos90=0
     Power consumption become zero.
